Delete your account
BarHookups · operated by Realty Investment Solutions, LLC
BarHookups accounts can be deleted. You can start the request from inside the app, or by writing to us if you no longer have the app installed.
Write to us from the address on the account and ask us to delete it.
contactus@barhookups.comHow to request deletion
From inside the app, sign in, open Profile, and choose Delete my account. You will be shown what happens and asked to confirm before anything is removed.
If you cannot sign in, or you have already removed the app, write to contactus@barhookups.com from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We will confirm when your request has been dealt with.
Deletion is a request our team completes, not an instant button. Your data is cleared as soon as you confirm, and the account itself is removed when the request is processed.
What is deleted
When you confirm a deletion request, we remove the data that belongs to your account:
- Your saved bars and your account preferences, including any marketing or check-in choices.
- Venues you recommended, pending and rejected owner claims, and check-ins you started.
- Your Connect profile, if you made one, along with your Connect check-ins, meeting requests, messages, meeting codes and block list.
- The link between you and any venue you had claimed, so no venue is left pointing at a deleted account.
What is anonymized rather than deleted
A review you wrote is kept, but it stops being yours: your name and the link to your account are removed, and it is shown as written by a member. The rating you gave stays, so a venue's score does not change when a member leaves.
A review is written in your own words, so it may name you or contain an email address or phone number that we cannot remove without rewriting what you wrote. Where our checks suggest that is the case, we hide the review from public display immediately, so those words stop being published, and flag it for our team to review by hand. While it is hidden it does not count toward the venue's rating. We then either keep the anonymized text or remove the review.
What we may keep, and why
We keep a small amount of information where we are required or permitted to — for safety, fraud prevention, or to meet a legal obligation:
- Records we must keep by law, and records needed to resolve an unresolved safety report or a legal matter. In that case we tell you that your request is on hold rather than deleting the records it depends on.
- An approved owner claim — our record of how a venue's ownership was verified. We keep the record, not you: your name, email address and the link to your account are removed from it.
- A report you filed that is still open, which keeps your account identifier so we can ask you about it. Once a report is resolved that identifier is removed, and the record is kept without it.
- If you start the request in the app, a record of it, so we can show that we handled it. It keeps an internal account reference, the dates and a count of what was cleared — and no email address, because we clear that as soon as your account has been removed. A request made by email creates no such record: our team handles it by hand.
Where we keep something for one of these reasons, we keep it for as long as the reason applies and no longer.
Uploaded photos
A profile photo is stored privately and is never shown on a public page. No member can upload one today: profile photos belong to BarHookups Connect, which is not open to members, so the only photos we hold come from our own testing with simulated accounts. If you ever upload one and later delete your account, we remove the reference to it, but we cannot always delete the stored file ourselves: the platform we build on does not provide a documented way for an app to delete a file, so that removal may need to be carried out with the platform's help.
If you need a photo file erased and it has not been, write to us and we will have it removed with the platform's assistance.
What happens after you request
Your data is cleared when you confirm, and member features are switched off for the account while the request is outstanding. You keep access to your deletion status and to support until the account is removed.
Once the account has been removed you can no longer sign in, and you will need to create a new account if you want to use the service again. Deleting an account cannot be undone.
