Terms of Service
Terms of Service · Version 1.2
Who we are
BarHookups is a nightlife discovery service operated by Realty Investment Solutions, LLC, a Texas limited liability company doing business as BarHookups.
In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Realty Investment Solutions, LLC, and "BarHookups" refers to the service.
Acceptance of these Terms
By using BarHookups you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Who may use BarHookups
BarHookups is for adults aged 21 and over. You must be at least 21 to create an account. Age is confirmed by your own statement when you create it — we do not check identification or use an identity-verification service — and we record that confirmation with the date you gave it. Giving a false confirmation breaches these Terms.
Browsing bars, events and cities does not require an account. An account is needed to save bars, post a review, recommend a venue, submit or claim a venue, or use any other member feature.
You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you, including those on alcohol, and for your own conduct at any venue.
Accounts and registration
You must give a valid email address and keep your account details accurate. You may not create an account for anyone else, or use someone else's account.
We send a one-time code to your email address, and you must verify it before you can sign in. Keep your password confidential: you are responsible for activity under your account, so tell us promptly if you believe it has been used without your permission.
When you create an account we record the versions of these Terms and of our Privacy Policy that you accepted, together with the date.
Venue and event information
Venue listings are compiled from third-party and public sources, including OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License), together with records our team and members submit. Opening hours and some other details are community-sourced and may be out of date or wrong; they are marked unverified where that is the case.
We do not own or control any venue, and we do not guarantee that any listing, event, price, time or feature is accurate or current. Always confirm details directly with the venue before travelling, and never rely on a listing for anything that matters.
Some listings are demonstration records used for testing and are marked as such.
Reviews, recommendations and other contributions
You keep ownership of the content you submit, and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, format and moderate it in connection with the service.
Reviews are shown under your account display name. If your account has no display name, or the name resembles an email address, we show "BarHookups Member". We never display your sign-in email address on a review.
You may have one review per venue: posting again for the same venue replaces your earlier review rather than adding a second.
Do not include anything unlawful, misleading, defamatory or abusive, and do not describe or identify other patrons. Reviews must be about the venue and your own experience.
If you delete your account, reviews you posted are anonymized rather than deleted, so a venue's rating does not change when a member leaves. How that works is set out under Ending your use.
Fraudulent, incentivised and manipulated reviews
Reviews must reflect a genuine visit and your honest opinion. You must not do any of the following:
If you are offered a benefit in exchange for a review, do not accept it, and tell us.
We remove reviews we reasonably believe are fraudulent or manipulated, and hiding a review also removes it from the venue's rating. We may close the account of a member who repeatedly breaks this section.
- post a review of a venue you own, operate or are employed by;
- post a review in exchange for money, a discount, a free item, entry or any other benefit, whether or not the arrangement is disclosed;
- post on behalf of someone else, or through more than one account;
- post content generated to manipulate a venue's rating;
- encourage or pay anyone else to do any of these things.
Advertising, sponsorship and promoted listings
BarHookups may in the future offer paid promotion: advertising, sponsored venue listings, featured placement, promoted events and premium venue profiles. Those products are not available today. Nothing in these Terms offers them as a current service, and no payment for them can be made or accepted at present.
When we do offer them, every paid promotion will be identified as sponsored or advertising content, clearly and on the listing itself, so that it cannot be mistaken for an ordinary listing or for our own editorial choice.
Paid promotion does not influence member reviews or venue ratings. It changes how prominently a listing appears, and nothing else: it does not change, hide, reorder or otherwise affect the reviews a venue receives, the rating shown for it, or the moderation decisions we take about it. We do not sell ratings, and we will not remove or hide a review in exchange for payment.
Venues, events or listings may also be promoted or sponsored without payment, and where a listing is promoted or sponsored it is marked as such.
If you advertise with us, you are responsible for the accuracy of what you submit and for complying with the law that applies to advertising, including the rules on alcohol promotion. We may decline or remove any promotion, and may end an advertising arrangement, where content is unlawful, misleading or against these Terms.
Venue owners may claim a listing. Every claim is reviewed before it takes effect.
Venue owner claims and submissions
If you claim a venue, you confirm you are authorised to act for it. If you submit a new venue or an event, you confirm the information is accurate and that you have the right to provide it. Claims and submissions are reviewed before they take effect, and a venue is not marked verified until we approve it.
Reports and moderation
You can report a listing, review or event. We may review, hide, edit or remove any content, and may suspend or close an account, where we reasonably believe these Terms have been broken or that content is unlawful, unsafe or misleading. We may also act on our own initiative, without a report.
We are not obliged to publish or keep any content. Moderation decisions are ours to make; if you think we have got one wrong, write to us and we will look again.
Intellectual property
The BarHookups name, the service and its design belong to us or our licensors. These Terms give you no right to them beyond using the service as intended.
If you believe content on BarHookups infringes your copyright or another intellectual-property right, write to contactus@barhookups.com with:
We remove or disable material that qualifies, tell the member who posted it, and accept a counter-notice on the same basis. We close the accounts of repeat infringers. Our designated agent for copyright complaints can be reached at the email address above.
- your name and contact details;
- a description of the work you say is infringed;
- the location of the material on our service;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised;
- a statement that the information you have given is accurate, and that you are the owner of the right or authorised to act for them;
- your physical or electronic signature.
See our Copyright & DMCA Policy for how to send a copyright notice.
BarHookups Connect
BarHookups Connect is not available. No Connect feature is active in the service: no member can create or edit a Connect profile, check in at a venue, send a message, make or accept a meeting request, or contact another member through BarHookups. Nothing in these Terms offers Connect as a current service.
Connect records do exist in our own private test environment, created by us and by automated testing using simulated identities. They are not part of the public service and do not correspond to real members.
If we introduce Connect, we will publish updated terms and a separate privacy notice before any part of it is switched on, and participation will be optional.
Singles check-in
The singles check-in feature is not active. It cannot be used, and no check-in is recorded for any member.
Third-party services and links
The service relies on third-party providers for hosting, email delivery and map tiles, and links to venues and other websites we do not control. We are not responsible for those third parties or their content.
Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including that the service will be uninterrupted or secure, or that any venue information is accurate.
We are not responsible for your interactions with venues or with anyone you meet, and we do not conduct background checks on any member. Meet in public places and take reasonable care.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, data or goodwill.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes to the service and these Terms
We may change the service and these Terms. When we change these Terms we publish a new version, and the acceptance recorded on your account no longer matches, so you are asked to accept the new version the next time you visit. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the service.
Ending your use
You may stop using BarHookups at any time. You can delete your account from inside the app, in Profile, by choosing Delete my account, or by contacting us. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms.
Deletion is a request that we complete, so it is not instant. When you confirm, we clear the data that belongs to your account and switch off member features for it, and the account itself, including your sign-in details, is removed when we process the request. We confirm when your request has been dealt with. If you start the request in the app, we keep an internal record that we handled it; a request made by email is handled by our team without one.
Reviews you posted are public content, and they are anonymized rather than deleted: your name and the link to your account are removed and the review is shown as written by a member, so a venue's rating does not change. If the text of a review appears to contain personal information, we hide it from public display while we review it by hand, and it stops counting toward the venue's rating. We then keep the anonymized text or remove the review.
We keep information where the law requires it, where an unresolved safety report or legal matter needs it, and the record of your deletion request itself where you started the request in the app. Where such a matter applies we tell you that your request is on hold rather than deleting what it depends on. An approved owner claim — our record of how a venue's ownership was verified — is kept for as long as we need it for that purpose, with your name, email address and account link removed from it. A report you filed keeps your account identifier only while it is still open, and loses it once the report is resolved. A profile photo is stored privately; no member can upload one while Connect is closed, and the only photos we hold come from our own testing with simulated accounts. If you ever upload one, we remove the reference to it when your account is deleted, but deleting the stored file itself may require the platform's assistance.
Deleting an account cannot be undone, and you will need to create a new account to use the service again.
Sections that by their nature should survive the end of your use — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law, and any other provision that is intended to survive — continue to apply after your account is closed.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, and the state and federal courts located in Texas have exclusive jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you a right to a different forum.
